Getting your WordPress site found on Google

An SEO plugin, a sitemap and Search Console in twenty minutes.

  1. Allow search engines: in Settings → Reading, make sure "Discourage search engines" is not ticked.
  2. Install an SEO plugin such as Yoast SEO or Rank Math. It creates a sitemap and lets you write a title and description for every page.
  3. Add your site to Google Search Console (and Bing Webmaster Tools), verify it with a TXT record (see Verifying your domain), and submit your sitemap.
  4. Write for people: a clear title on every page, useful content, and your city or country where it matters.
  5. Speed and HTTPS help too. See Making WordPress fast.

Ranking takes time. A new site usually needs weeks before it shows up for competitive searches.
