Testing changes on a staging copy

Clone your site, test safely, then push the changes live.

A staging site is a private copy where you can try updates, plugins or a redesign without risking the live site.

  1. In cPanel, open WordPress Manager by Softaculous, choose your site and select Staging (or Clone).
  2. Choose an address for the copy, for example a subdomain like staging.example.com or a folder.
  3. Make and test your changes on the copy.
  4. When everything works, use Push to Live to publish the changes, after taking a backup of the live site.

Password-protect the staging folder so visitors and search engines don't find it.
