Backing up WordPress
What to back up, and three easy ways to do it.
A WordPress site is two things: its files (wp-content: themes, plugins, uploads) and its database (posts, pages, settings, orders). A backup needs both.
Ways to back up
- Softaculous: in cPanel, WordPress Manager → your site → Backup. One click, and you can restore the same way.
- A backup plugin such as UpdraftPlus, which can send backups automatically to Google Drive, Dropbox or S3 storage.
- cPanel backups: download your home directory and the database. See Backing up your website.
Keep copies outside the hosting account, and test a restore from time to time.
