My website is down
Work out why in a few minutes, from the most common cause down.
Go through these in order. Most problems are found in the first three steps.
- Is it down for everyone, or just you? Open the site on your phone using mobile data (not Wi-Fi). If it works there, the problem is your network or computer: clear the browser cache or try another browser.
- Is the domain active? An expired domain takes the website and email down. Check under My domains, or with our WHOIS tool. See Renewing a domain.
- Is the service active? An unpaid invoice suspends the service. Check Billing → My invoices. See Overdue invoices and suspended services.
- Does the domain point to the right place? Check its records with the DNS checker. Recent DNS changes take time to spread.
- What does the browser show?
- *"This site can't be reached" / DNS error:* see Domain not found.
- *Certificate warning:* see SSL errors.
- *403, 500, 503 or 508:* see the article for that error in this section.
- *White page or "critical error":* see the WordPress white screen.
- On a VPS or dedicated server? Check the server in IDX Panel. See My server is not responding.
- Is there a known incident? Check our status page.
Still down? Open a ticket with the domain, what you see (a screenshot helps) and when it started.
