Normal versus forced power off
When to use each.
Shut down asks the operating system to close cleanly. It's the right choice almost every time.
Force power off and Force reset (where available for your server) cut power immediately, like pulling the plug. Use them only when the server is frozen and ignores a normal shutdown.
A forced power off can lose unsaved data or damage open files.
