Connecting your IDX domain to Shopify
Two DNS records, and your store opens at your own domain.
On this page
Keep your domain with IDX and point it to Shopify by adding two records. Your email and other records stay as they are.
In Shopify
- In your Shopify admin, go to Settings → Domains → Connect existing domain.
- Enter your domain and continue. Shopify shows the records it needs.
At IDX
Open your DNS records (see Adding and editing DNS records) and set:
| Type | Name | Value |
|---|---|---|
| A | @ | 23.227.38.65 |
| CNAME | www | shops.myshopify.com |
Remove any other A record for @ and any other record for www, so they don't conflict.
Finish
Back in Shopify, click Verify connection. It can take up to 48 hours for DNS to spread; Shopify then issues an SSL certificate automatically.
Always copy the values Shopify shows you in its admin; they're the authoritative source if they ever change.
Don't change your nameservers to point to Shopify unless you also move your email records. Adding the two records above is the safest way. See Keeping your email at IDX.
