Connecting to a Linux server with SSH

From Windows, macOS or Linux, with a password or a key.

Connecting

Open Terminal (macOS, Linux) or PowerShell (Windows 10 and later) and run, with your server's IP address:

ssh root@203.0.113.10

The first time, you're asked to confirm the server's fingerprint: type yes. Then enter the password from your delivery ticket. Nothing appears on screen while you type the password; that's normal.

Keys are far safer than passwords. On your computer:

ssh-keygen -t ed25519
ssh-copy-id root@203.0.113.10

From then on you sign in without a password. You can also add your public key when reinstalling the server in IDX Panel.

Can't connect?

  • Check the server is running in IDX Panel.
  • Make sure port 22 is allowed in the firewall.
  • Use the browser console in IDX Panel, which works even when SSH doesn't.
