Installing Docker on Ubuntu

Run containers on your VPS with Docker and Docker Compose.

The quickest way on Ubuntu or Debian is Docker's official convenience script:

curl -fsSL https://get.docker.com | sh
docker --version
docker compose version

Run a test container:

docker run --rm hello-world

Notes

  • Docker publishes container ports directly and can bypass UFW rules. Use IDX Panel's firewall, or bind containers to 127.0.0.1 and put a reverse proxy (Nginx) in front.
  • Keep data in volumes, and back them up. See Automatic server backups.
