Stopping your email going to spam (SPF, DKIM, DMARC)
Three DNS records that prove your email is really from you.
Receiving servers check three records to decide whether your email is genuine:
| Record | What it proves |
|---|---|
| SPF | Which servers may send email for your domain |
| DKIM | A digital signature showing the message wasn't changed |
| DMARC | What to do with messages that fail SPF or DKIM |
Turning them on with IDX hosting
- In cPanel, open Email Deliverability.
- If your domain shows problems, click Repair next to SPF and DKIM. cPanel adds the correct records when your DNS is hosted with us.
- Add a DMARC record in Zone Editor: a TXT record named
_dmarcwith a value such asv=DMARC1; p=none; rua=mailto:you@example.com. Start withp=none, and tighten later.
If your DNS is hosted elsewhere, copy the records cPanel shows into that provider's DNS.
Check your domain with our free email authentication guide and the DNS checker (choose TXT).
Other reasons email lands in spam
- Sending to old lists of people who didn't ask for your email.
- Spammy subjects, or messages that are just one big image.
- A sending server without reverse DNS, if you send from your own VPS.
