Connecting with FTP (FileZilla)

Create an FTP account and connect securely.

On this page

Create an FTP account

  1. In cPanel, open FTP Accounts.
  2. Enter a username and a strong password, and choose the folder it can access (for the main site, public_html).
  3. Click Create FTP Account.

Connect with FileZilla

  1. Install FileZilla (free).
  2. Open File → Site Manager → New site.
  3. Protocol: FTP; Encryption: Require explicit FTP over TLS.
  4. Host: your domain or the server name from your welcome email; Port: 21.
  5. User: the full FTP username (for example user@example.com), and the password.
  6. Click Connect. Your computer's files are on the left, the server's on the right; drag to upload.

cPanel's FTP Accounts page has a Configure FTP Client link next to each account showing its exact settings.

Avoid plain, unencrypted FTP: it sends your password in clear text.
