Importing and exporting a database

Back up or move a database with phpMyAdmin.

Exporting (backup)

  1. In cPanel, open phpMyAdmin.
  2. Select the database on the left.
  3. Open the Export tab, keep Quick and SQL, and click Export. A .sql file downloads.

Importing

  1. Create an empty database and user first (see Creating a MySQL database).
  2. In phpMyAdmin, select the new database.
  3. Open Import, choose your .sql (or .sql.gz) file and click Import.

Very large databases may time out in the browser. Compress the file as .sql.gz first, or open a ticket and we'll import it for you.
