How to start a mobile app project, from idea to app stores

An app needs more than screens: a domain, a backend, hosting, store accounts and a plan for updates. Here is the full picture before you start.

Most app ideas focus on the screens. The parts users never see, the backend, the hosting and the accounts behind it, decide whether the app survives its first thousand users.

1. Define the first version

List the few features that solve the core problem. Everything else waits for version two.

2. Register the domain early

Your app needs a website, a privacy policy page (required by the app stores), support email and API addresses. Register the app's domain at IDX before you announce the name.

3. Plan the backend and hosting

Logins, data and notifications run on a backend server. Start on a cloud VPS with guaranteed resources and snapshots, store images and files on object storage, and grow from there. Our article on mobile app backend hosting goes deeper.

4. Email and support

support@yourapp.com and a team mailbox on business email look professional in store listings and replies to users.

5. App store accounts

Create developer accounts with Apple and Google in your company's name, not a developer's personal account.

6. Build, test, launch

Test on real devices, run a beta with a small group, then launch with a simple website explaining the app, hosted on IDX shared hosting.

7. After launch

Plan for regular updates, OS compatibility and backend maintenance from the start.
