Moving email to IDX
Recreate mailboxes, copy old messages and switch MX records.
- Create the same mailboxes at IDX, with the same addresses. See Creating an email account.
- Copy old messages. The simplest way for a few mailboxes: add both the old and new accounts to Outlook or Thunderbird with IMAP, and drag folders from the old to the new. For many mailboxes, open a ticket to Professional Emails and we'll copy them for you.
- Switch the MX records to IDX (or change the nameservers if the website moves too).
- Keep the old accounts for a few days and check them for late messages while DNS spreads.
- Update your devices to the new server settings. See Email settings for any app.
