SSL and HTTPS explained
Why every website needs a certificate, and which type to choose.
An SSL certificate encrypts the connection between your visitors and your website. It's what puts https:// and the padlock in the address bar. Without it, browsers mark your site Not secure, and search engines rank it lower.
Which type?
| Type | Best for |
|---|---|
| DV (Domain Validated) | Most websites. Free on every IDX hosting plan, issued in minutes. |
| OV (Organisation Validated) | Companies that want their verified company name in the certificate. |
| Wildcard | Covering every subdomain (*.example.com) with one certificate. |
