"We need a website" can mean a three-page company profile or a multilingual store connected to an ERP. The difference between a smooth project and a frustrating one is usually the brief.
The essentials
- Goal: what should the site achieve? Enquiries, online sales, bookings, recruitment, credibility with partners?
- Audience: who visits, from which countries, on which devices, in which languages?
- Pages and features: a list of pages and anything interactive: forms, booking, payments, member areas, search.
- Content: who writes the text and provides photos? Content is the most common cause of delays.
- Examples: two or three sites you like, and what you like about each.
Technical details
- Existing domain and hosting, and who has access.
- Integrations: payment gateway, shipping, CRM, ERP, WhatsApp, analytics.
- Who will update the site afterwards, and how often.
For online stores
Number of products, variants such as sizes and colours, payment and shipping methods, and how stock is managed.
Budget and timeline
Share a budget range and a target date. It helps the team propose the right scope instead of guessing.
After launch
Decide who handles updates, backups, security and small changes. A website needs maintenance like any other business asset.
