Pointing a domain to your VPS or dedicated server

Two A records connect your domain to your server's IP address.

To serve a website from your own server, point the domain to the server's IP address (it's in the delivery ticket and in IDX Panel).

  1. Open your DNS records (see Adding and editing DNS records).
  2. Add or edit an A record: name @, value your server's IPv4 address.
  3. Add a CNAME record: name www, value your domain (or another A record for www with the same IP).
  4. If your server has IPv6, add AAAA records the same way.
  5. Wait for the change to spread, then set up the website and an SSL certificate on the server.

If you send email from the server, also set its reverse DNS to a name such as mail.example.com.
