Adding and editing DNS records
Where to edit records, and how to add A, CNAME, MX and TXT records.
Where you edit records depends on where your domain's DNS is hosted:
- Your domain uses IDX hosting nameservers: edit records in cPanel → Zone Editor.
- Your domain uses IDX's domain DNS: edit them under My domains → DNS management in the client area, if offered for the domain.
- Your nameservers point elsewhere: edit records at that provider.
Not sure? Look up your nameservers with our WHOIS tool.
Adding a record in cPanel
- Log in to cPanel and open Zone Editor.
- Click Manage next to the domain.
- Click Add Record and choose the type.
- Fill in the fields (see below) and click Save Record.
| Type | Name | Value |
|---|---|---|
| A | @ for the domain itself, or a subdomain such as shop | The IP address |
| CNAME | The alias, such as www | The target name, such as example.com |
| MX | @ | The mail server, with a priority number (lower is tried first) |
| TXT | @ or the name you were given | The text exactly as you were given it |
Copy values exactly, with no extra spaces. One wrong character is enough to break verification or email.
