Businesses in Egypt often ask which domain ending to choose. The honest answer is that many use more than one: a global name for reach, and a local one for trust.
.com: the global default
A .com is recognised everywhere, is quick to register and has no paperwork. It is the safest choice if you sell outside Egypt, or plan to. Its only drawback is popularity: short .com names are often taken.
.eg and .com.eg: the local signal
Egyptian endings tell customers you are based in Egypt. They are managed by the Egyptian registry, which asks for documents depending on the ending: a company usually provides its commercial registration and tax card, for example. That makes them slower to register, but it also means fewer squatters.
- .com.eg suits commercial companies.
- .eg is short and modern, with its own rules.
- Other endings such as .edu.eg, .org.eg and .net.eg exist for specific kinds of organisation.
Our .EG domains page lists every Egyptian ending, its requirements and its price.
Which one should you choose?
- Selling mostly in Egypt: register .com.eg or .eg for your website, and the .com to protect the name.
- Selling in the Gulf or globally: use the .com as the main address, and keep the local ending pointing to it.
- Government tenders or regulated sectors: a local ending can be expected, so check the tender terms.
One website, several domains
You do not need a separate site for each ending. Point every domain at the same website and choose one as the main address, with the others redirecting to it. That keeps search engines focused on one URL.
How IDX helps
IDX registers global and Egyptian endings from the same account. For .eg domains we review your documents before submitting them to the registry and follow activation through with you. Start with a search on the domains page.
